Stop worrying about sleep!
Parents with young children are estimated to lose the equivalent of six month’s sleep in the first 2 years of a child’s life. A good enough reason to make sure that contraceptives are always on hand. I can definitely agree with this finding.
According to another recent poll of over 5300 people 61% of people have sleep problems with around 37% of the test group suffering from insomnia.
However sometimes it isn’t how much sleep you got that’s important, but how much sleep you think you got. According to another recent study our own perception of how much we slept during a night can be startlingly inaccurate. A group of insomniacs were measured to find out how much they actually slept during the night. Despite the insomniacs reporting that they had only slept for 2 or 3 hours, they actually slept for an average of 7 hours.
This shows that insomniacs (and probably the rest of us) are very bad at judging the time it takes us to get to sleep, and the time we actually are asleep. It also suggests that worrying about sleep, and our beliefs about how we’ve slept, have a big role in the negative affects of what (we believe) is a sleepless night.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is an excellent way to help tackle any sleeping disorders, whether they exist or not as it works at many different levels, and can change the beliefs about our sleeping patterns into more positive ones.

As someone who often struggles to get to sleep, its an interesting point about misjudging time. Perhaps I get more sleep than I think!
